EM OBRAS•Trechos da Avenida Paulista estão interditados desde 23 de julho para troca do calçamento. Em estudo desde 2002, as obras custarão 8,2 milhões, devem durar 9 meses e trarão benefícios aos pedestres: as faixas de travessia passam de 16 para 20, o tempo de espera para cruzamento a pé hoje estimado em 120 s diminui 50% e as rampas de acesso serão alargadas, o que facilitará a locomoção de cadeirantes. • A segunda maior biblioteca do país, a Mario de Andrade no centro de São Paulo fecha em agosto para 18 meses de reforma, com custo de R$13 milhões pagos pelo BID e pela Prefeitura. As obras incluem recuperação da estrutura do edifício, restauro da fachada e do mobiliário original. Na segunda fase da obra será anexado um edifício ao complexo, o que permitirá o esperado aumento do acervo, atualmente com 3,2 milhões de itens. O projeto inclui a retirada das grades que circundam a biblioteca, para integrá-la aos espaços públicos vizinhos: a Praça Dom José Gaspar e a Rua Xavier de Toledo.

•Certain stretches of Avenida Paulista are interdicted since the 23 of Junly due to the replacement of the pavement. Under study since 2002, the reform will cost 8,2 million, should last 9 months and will bring the following benefits for the pedestrians: the crossing strands will go from 16 to 20, the waiting time to cross afoot estimated to be today 120 s will be reduced by 50% and the access ramps will be increased, which will ease the wheelchairs’ locomotion. TOMIE OHTAKE EM SANTOS 
A cidade de Santos vai ganhar até junho de 2008 uma escultura assinada e doada por Tomie Ohtake, 93, em homenagem aos 100 anos da Imigração Japonesa no Brasil. A artista propõe obra em aço, toda vermelha, com 15 m de altura, 20 m de extensão e 2m de largura a ser instalada na Orla, no bairro de José Menino. Quanto a forma, a artista que chegou ao Brasil do Japão em 1936 aos 23 anos de idade, como de costume não traduz em palavras.
